Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE running Lightsabre. Meeting all the people I do, writing the news page, articles, especially the interviews. It’s been a major part of my life since 1982, ever since I wrote Quest for Freedom. Ever since then it’s been the sequels, NHP with Jonathan Hicks, the roleplaying, the guides, the early websites with Louis and since 1999 Lightsabre. It’s really been one continuous run from page 1 of Quest in ‘82 up to…well, this blog. But it’s sometimes a struggle to fit it into my daily routine. Take today. I woke up with the alarm at 7.15, finally fell out of bed when the postman rang the bell at 7.45, washed and changed and started working on the site at just before 8.00am while Bex did breakfast. Then I munched (scrambled egg and bacon, luverly) and got back to the site until 8.40am, blasted out of the house, got petrol and then sat in traffic before arriving at work half an hour late at 10.00am.
Leaving work after a busy day at 5.45pm I wazzed it down the A-38 to my folks house, picked up my Dad and drove 3 miles to Lichfield Golf and Country Club to sign up for the new Gym, which opens in January.
When the HELL am I going to find time for that!!
But, I’m 36 fast approaching 37, 6′4″ and 16 and a half stone. Great for an in-shape Rugby player, but I am a million miles from being in shape. I’m A shape, but not a good one. Imagine Morph from Take Hart stretched to breaking point. That’s me.
So, I get home at 8.45pm after a great meal at Mom and Dads, say hi to Bex and straight upstairs onto the site. And here we are at 11.30pm and I’m still at it.
When I was single and living here alone I would often put 20-25 hours a week into the site, sometimes more. Stories would get written (something that’s regretably fallen by the wayside, but I am determined to resurrect that), I could chase interviews, do artwork and organise the site. Thankfully I now have it so that interviews are easier to come by due to the blogs and our site’s good name (plus I have enough in the bag to last well in to 2009) and the site is set so that really I only need to spend 90 minutes a day working on it.
But, if you are reading this you are a fellow Star Wars fan. You know how carried away we get with all this. Right now I am drinking Lucozade (or Lucasade as i refer to it) listening to ‘The Dune Sea of Tatooine’ (you know, the track where R2 gets vacuumed into the Sandcrawler) and thinking ‘I want to cuddle up with the wife.’
So, I’ll love you and leave you. Here’s to many more deep and thoughful blogs. Let us know how you fit Star Wars into your daily routine. I tend to use a shoehorn…
